Roger Downs Other memories June 13, 2015

I knew Larry as a close friend from around 1965 to the early 90's when I left the area. Only saw him during his later PA activist years when occasionably returning on business trips. If anybody is interested in more detail of his life before the "king of the homeless" period you can contact me at red2dog45@yahoo.com. Will not answer every question though out of respect.
Don Barr The years I worked with Larry January 30, 2014

From the first time I met Larry in the late 1990s, I felt a deep respect and admiration for his commitment to improving the lives of others.  I worked with him for many years on the Board of the Community Working Group.  Those years only reinforced those feelings.  Larry was a valuable member of our community, and his contributions were substantial. He will be remembered.

Whether "living" on the streets or in a shelter, it was a real blessing to have met Larry. "We're not homeless, just unhoused." When he told me that, I began the difficult climb from a dire existance. Now, I reside at The Opportunity Center, clean and sober, a place that Larry helped bring about. I was also quite grateful when Larry freely shared his knowledge and experiences living here in Palo Alto.

I am only an aqcuaintance, but as a fellow autodidact and resident of Palo Alto with unsure housing, I knew Larry to be a vibrant, engaging conversationalist with broad ranging interests and genuine compassion for all people--even the ubiquitous millionaires of the shire.

If Palo Alto is the stuff dreams are made of, Larry was a consummate dreamer of the highest, humanitarian order.

Sail free, my friend--your spirit endures, you will be missed,

Malcolm White Not many like him here January 11, 2014

He was a man with exceptional intellectual abilities and broad interests.

May he rest in peace, now that he no longer has to fight to breathe.
